I read Anne’s post a couple of days ago, which made me remember this.

When she showed a picture of a Starbucks’ red cup for the holidays,
I immediately thought of this post I have meant to share with you.
And it has been in my Drafts for almost a year now.

Let me start with this little story.

You see,
For some reason,
People always mis-spell my name.
Always.

The ‘E’ will always be missing,
Or the ‘N’ will always be double.
Or an ‘H’ will somehow get shoved in there somewhere.

Or maybe just because people can’t accept that
my face comes with my name.
They just don’t go well together.

I have seen it written down as bad as
TYROMME,
TRYONE or even
TRYONA.

It happens so often,
I really don’t care anymore.

So anyway,
Last year when I was in Orlando for a week’s training,
and I passed by the Starbucks inside the hotel we were staying at for breakfast.

I just had one cappuccino, and a muffin.
Enough for me to start my day,
as I hit the books and listen to more boring crap.

You know how the servers ask for your name
after you pay for your order,
so they can write it down on your cup?

So this lady asked for my name, as she holds her sharpie,
ready to write it down on the side of my “Red Starbucks Holiday Cup.”

Trying to save me the trouble,
and making it easier on them as well,
I told them:
“My Name is TY.”

Nice!
Short.
Two letters.
Who could mess that up?

As they call my name,
And as I go to the counter, they hand me my cup.

And lo and behold,
This is what they wrote:

I guess it still sounds the same, so I didn’t mind as much.
I just do not know what name they got “Tie” from.
I mean, for sure Ty would be short for something,
like Tyler, Tyrell, Tyrus or Tyson,
or gosh I don’t know, maybe Tyrone?
But “Tie?”

Oh well.

Maybe the next time someone asks me my name,
Ill just say :

“T”

There you go.

But knowing how it is,
they’ll probably spell it as “Tee” or “Tea.”

Damnit!

Okay.
From now on
my new name is “Boy.”
Or maybe “The Rock.”

“The Rock Ovama!”

There.
Everybody knows that!
