“I like beautiful melodies telling me terrible things.” – Tom Waits

Old man
A friend told me yesterday,
now that I have reached my age,
I will start to “Not Care” about stupid things I cared about when I was younger.
I think I have been preparing myself for this,
because quite frankly, I really haven’t been paying attention to anyone’s bullshit.
And of course,
here’s my obligatory “another year older” cover song.
I’m so old, I’m gonna have to start driving slow and yell at kids
to get off my lawn!
And start smelling like Ben Gay or Kaopectate.
Pilot of the Airwaves
…here is my request.
You don’t have to play it but I hope you’d do your best.
I’ve been listening to your show on the radio.
And you seem like a friend to me.
I too grew up in the generation of the Radio.
Well, I meant how radio was, in the 80’s and 90’s.
There were no iPods, no Napsters, and no easy iTunes
where anyone can download their favourite songs readily and easily.
World Cancer Day
Today is World Cancer Day.
Remembering all those who fought and lost.
Those who fought and won.
And those who are still fighting.
Hoping there would be a cure
At least in my lifetime.
I have always said,
Whenever I die, I am going to have a little chat with whoever invented this horrible disease.
They’ve got some explaining to do.
Kung Hee Fat Choy!

Kung Hee Fat Choy, my friends.
Good fortune to you all.
No, I am not Chinese.
I just want to greet my Chinese friends a Happy New Year.
I may as well be Chinese though.
Some people mistake me for one when they see me.
Music Time Travel
#Music is my own time machine.
Old songs bring me back. Songs I've just discovered brings me forward. The present is what I'm singing now.— Ty Martell (@denofmusic) January 31, 2014
Freezing Trip
I haven’t been back in Ottawa in a good while and I must tell you,
I really don’t remember it being THAT cold.
And THAT much snow.
