Obligatory “First of May” song post

How can I not re-post this song?
Today, of all days.

The Brothers Gibb is probably one of my guilty pleasures
when it comes to listening to yesteryear’s music.

Don’t judge me.
I know you secretly dance to “Stayin’ Alive
whenever you hear it come on the radio.

The BeeGees are cool.
A lot of bands and artists covered many of their songs.
I covered this one many years ago, because it’s one of my favourites.
As a matter of fact, “Words” is the very first song I have learned to play completely.
From start to finish, without pausing to figure out the chord fingerings.

Anyway,
Here is “First of May.”

Voice, all Instruments and percussion arrangements – Ty Martell

New Video Song Added – Color My World

I remember my cousin Reggie and I trying to learn this song.
We were so upset that our fingers couldn’t reach the chord fingering stretches.
It was so simple, yet so hard.
Well, for us beginners.

After all these years, I finally had the courage to re-learn it
and play it here.

But to be honest,
this wasn’t really the song I wanted to record today.

I started playing something else
and my thoughts just jumped from one thing to another.
Everything just went in tangents.
I really must be getting old.

Anyways.
Here’s
Color My World
Music by – Chicago
Covered by – yours truly.

Please don’t mind the mistake at the end.
I am too lazy to redo it.

Lyrics start here:

Where did these kids come from?

If you have 5 minutes.
Just five minutes to listen to a very well written song.
I haven’t heard a song that moved me in a while
and this one definitely did.

It’s from that British show X-Factor,
the girl’s name is Lucy Spraggan.
She did this very brilliantly.

Check it out and listen.

If these are the new kids coming out with song writing talents,
then there may be hope, people.

There may be hope.

Music Throwback Thursday

I made this cover years ago, but it really needed a female voice.
It just so happens that I was talking to Lotus, a very good friend of mine.
We were in the same class back in the 6th grade.

I had her provide the voice on this one about a couple of years ago
and I really like the way it turned out.

So check out our cover of an old Filipino classic,
“Friend of mine” by Odette Quesada.

Lotus on the voice,
I do the music.

New Song Added – Himig

How about we do an old Philippine Classic Music.
This one is from one of The Philippines’ great Folk/Rock artists.
And definitely one of my greatest influences, Mr. Freddie Aguilar.
This one is called “Himig.”
One of my favorites, for sure.

I always thought that the music he did here was brilliant, yet haunting.
It’s very fun to play, yet there’s a sad tone to it.

It’s a Tagalog song, so I guess
we’re just going to ask Google to translate it for us.

I also discovered how to make the side by side effects on iMovie,
and I am starting to experiment more on what else we could do on it.
Be easy with me.
I’m a beginner on Video Editing.

Throwback Video Thursday

Let’s try to hold the ridiculous throwback photos for today.

Here’s an old Video Snippet from a late night gathering at a friend’s place.
I was playing Through the Barricades by Spandau Ballet.
One of my ultimate favorites to play on guitar.

I apologize for the grainy video.
This was probably around 1993-1994.

Yes.
I am old.
Shut up.

Music Throwback

I spent a good hour yesterday,
looking for an old picture for Throwback Thursday.

It’s not easy finding one where I have pants on,
but no matter.

We’ll just look back at this Youtube Video
I recorded some time ago.

I’ll Always Love You, by M. Johnson.

I’m not sure if the “M.” Stands for Michael, Maurice, Mario or Magic.
We’ll just call him Mister Johnson, to be safe.

Here’s my attempt on his song.

Thanks for watching.

Music for breakfast

I had music for breakfast today.
For such a crappy day yesterday, I needed to recharge with what I love most.

This is a Paul Gilbert song called “Three Times Rana.”
I love how catchy it was and quite fun to play on guitar.
Of course I couldn’t do it like he does.

This is typically my morning self and I am not very good with video editing.
Plus I still don’t have any make up on.
I am trying out the iMovie/Photo Booth combination on my Mac.
I need to learn how to make my sound appear better
and my appearance seem …uhh better to look at.
But at this point, those two wishes seem hopeless.

Anyway, Forgive the grainy video and the mediocre sound.
It’s what I had for breakfast.
At least I am full.
