New Song Added – Hands To Heaven

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

I tried to play a couple of new songs yesterday,
but this cough wouldn’t let me.

Maybe it’s Nature’s way of telling me
to shut the hell up.

But that wouldn’t stop me from sharing my misery with you.
So I give you another song I have dug from my archives.

Hands to Heaven

Music by – Breathe
Voice and all Instruments by – Ty Martell

I recorded this in 2006,
when I was still experimenting on how to record
multiple instruments.

I used to play the guitar and sing it at the same time,
but not anymore.
With the advancement of technologies available now
I can create most of the arrangements I have in my head one at a time.

I am just kidding. I just never figured out how to do multiple tracks then,
so I did it “Live.”
Then add the Bass, harmony and whatever guitar-solo-noodling I do, later.

Now you might be asking yourself,
“Why in the world would I listen to your crap, Ty?”
And why do you keep posting them online?”

Well, first.
I am sick and you should feel bad for me.

Second,
I am a sad, strange individual,
and you should give me some pity.

And third,
When I am old and decrepit,
alone with my cat,
I have proof that I used to play music.

And not just pretend that I did
when I tell stories to the younger kids.

Or tell stories to my cat.

New Song Added – I’ll Never Get Over You.

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

I have been digging through my archives
and I found a lot of songs I have made years ago
that I have never posted here.

A lot of the songs I play are mostly products of how I feel.
I do not write songs myself so I end up doing covers
and end up mixing in my own touch.

It doesn’t matter what style or genre they are,
If they fit my emotions, they will get played.

Just like this one I am about to share with you.

I played this one to convey the hurt and painful emotions one feels when a relationship ends
and you see the other person has moved on quite easily
and is doing much better than you.

It’s like you never even existed.

All the things you have gone through,
The moments you have shared,
Gone.
Just like that.
Makes you realize where you truly stand throughout the whole time.

It is quite tragic.

But in all honesty.
I recorded this song,
not because of that drama.

But because a long time ago,
when I used to call my sister on her phone,
this was her Music ringtone.

And I couldn’t get it off my head!
It was driving me mad!

So anyway,

Here’s
I’ll Never Get Over You

Music by – Expose
Voice and All instruments by – Ty Martell

–This was recorded way back in 2007.
I never really thought of it seeing the light of day.
So Pardon the mistakes.
What am I saying? Like you expected anything better!

New Song Added – The Climb

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Here’s another project my good friend Jojo and I did.
I never really knew this one until she told me to give it a listen.

The words of this song are so inspirational and uplifting.
It is perfect for people who have doubts in their life.

We all tend to worry what our destination would be
that we often forget about the actual journey going there.

Or whatever people would think if we did not accomplish what is expected of us,
that we deny our own interest just to please other people.

I think this song is a perfect example of that.

This reminds me of that old saying,
“It’s not about if you win or lose, it’s how you place the blame.”

No wait!
Play the game.
I meant “Play the game.”

Anyway,
My sincerest thanks to Jojo
for providing the voice on this one.

Here is,

THE CLIMB

Vocals by Jojo Ellis
All instruments and percussion arrangements by Ty Martell

And HAPPY THANKSGIVING, CANADA!!

New Song Added – Waste Of Time

Monday, July 13th, 2009

https://www.denofmusic.com/chorus/mp3s/2009/WasteOfTime.mp3One of the things I enjoy doing
is when I do cover songs that I like,
I try to put my own spin on it.

I try to change the solo guitar,
change the voice direction,
or just make it a totally different genre.

I like that. I enjoy it.

Sometimes, not because I want to,
but because I am very limited.

For example,
I record this all on my computer.
I do not have any sophisticated mixing machines.
That’s why the quality of my music is quite spotty.

My voice does not span a lot of range,
So I had to transpose the chords 2, 3 even 5 times,
just for me to be able to sing them.

My fingers don’t move as fast,
so I create and substitute different notes.
Sometimes, I would just pick the same couple of notes,
just to give the illusion of some serious shredding.

And my appearance is quite horrid to see,
So I use a lot of make-up and wear hats.

Now you suddenly just realized what I told you was pointless,
and I just wasted your time.

So in saying that,
here’s a new song that I covered.
And when I say covered,
I mean I butchered it,
and I will force you to listen.

It’s called “Waste Of Time”
by Paul Gilbert and Freddie Nelson,
from their album, United States.

I hope you like it,
and please buy their album.
It’s definitely not a waste.

I think it works with this plug in.

A Tribute to Michael

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

I guess the whole world knows,
that the King of Pop passed away today.

All his personal matters aside,
I truly admire Mr. Jackson’s music and talent.

I grew up when he was on top of everything.
And as a musician, you couldn’t help but
be in awe of what he has accomplished.

Here is my tribute to him.
Thank you very much, Your Excellency.

I chose this song,
Not only because it’s one of my favourites,
but also because the lyrics are very personal to me.

It has taught me that,
When all has come to pass,
When all is said and done,
When nothing else matters,
It’s just me and the music.

New Song Added – First Of May

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Year after year,
on May 1st,
I always have this song in my head.

It’s by the legendary Bee Gees.
One of my favourite music artists of all time.

Their songs are all great.
And this one, I think,
is definitely one of the best songs ever written.

I must apologize on how I sang this one.
I couldn’t stop crying when I was doing this.
Just like what the lyrics said.
“Guess who’ll cry, come first of May.”

Yup. It was me.
I was crying like I was in Labor.

Oh yeah!
It’s Labor Day in the Philippines today.

So this song is perfect.

EASTER 2009

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

New Song Added.

I guess it’s mandatory for me,
to play a religious song come Easter weekend.

Here’s another one we used to sing in High School.
I am not sure who composed it.
I am going to have to figure that one out.

**UPDATE**
This song is also by Bro. Mike Lapid.
(Thanks TJ!)

Happy Easter to all!
The Lord is risen.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

Here’s

The Lord Is My Strength.

New Song Added

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

Here’s another song collaboration
with my good friend, Jojo Ellis.

She called me one day and said,
“Ty, let’s do this one.”

And I don’t think she was even done with her sentence
when she suddenly stopped.

Apparently I drowned the phone line with my screams of delight,
and she kept on telling me to shut up and listen.

It’s an old Filipino song, by Sharon Cuneta.

I love it when I team up with friends for songs to post here.
It makes me famous, like I am some kind of special.
Because the only kind of special I am used to,
is when I used to ride the short bus.

Anyway,
Here’s our new song project.

The Man from Manila

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

I had the pleasure of meeting Francis Magalona years ago
and I have always admired his many talents.

A fellow Bosconian who’s music has influenced a great generation.
This is my tribute to him.
And definitely one of my favourite Francis M. songs.

New Song Added – Love and Affection

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

I don’t know why,
but I have been playing a lot of acoustic lately.

I am enjoying the rawness of it.

Anyway,
Here’s an old 80’s tune from the Nelson Brothers.

Remember the Nelson twins?
Probably not.

I totally forgot about them as well.

I just remembered them after watching
“The Suite life of Zack and Cody” marathon.

What?
The twins are funny!
I like the Disney channel.
