Then the kid turned 13

Wednesday, October 14th, 2015

Happy Birthday my dear boy!

Now that you’re a teenager,
Hopefully you’ll still listen to me.
Not because I’m always right, (which your mom refuses to believe)
But because I have been wrong a lot of times.

I can give you a list of tips or advises
now that you are in your teenage years.
But instead, I’ll just tell you to believe in yourself.
There will be a lot of confusing moments.

You are one of the most kind people I have ever known.
Do not trust anybody. And I mean any one.
Not even your close friends, or family.

Always clean up your mess. Literally and figuratively.

I can never fully know all the things you’re going to be going thru,
but I can have a pretty good idea and I can definitely understand.
You can always come to me or your Mom.

We are so proud of you.
I wish your Grandma Linda could have seen
how you grew up to be a handsome and kind young man.

I love you very much, Buddy.

Always.

Happy Birthday.

Poor Kid #2

Friday, August 24th, 2012

I found out when I got home yesterday,
that this little girl broke up with the kid.

I don’t know much details yet
the kid doesn’t want to talk to anyone.

I have never seen someone so heartbroken.
It’s breaking mine too.

He only said that he feels so unwanted.
I will just wait until he wants to talk.

I guess I better try to stop writing about the kid from now on.
I have to respect his privacy.

Except maybe when he and I do something funny.
Of course I would share that.

Just don’t tell him what I just wrote.

Poor Kid

Let me tell you this story.
I have been debating if I was going to post this or not,
but I just think it’s both sad and sweet,
so here goes..

Just bear with me here.

Just Like Most Things

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

Today, my son engaged me in a conversation, during breakfast,
about the possibility that Santa doesn’t exist.
He then asked me if Santa is actually real.

I was caught off guard, to be honest with you.

All I ever wanted

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

Today, my kid asked me this question.

“Dad, why did you choose to have your job on computers?”

I answered, “Because I like it and it’s a good job.”

“Okay.” He replied.
“If you weren’t working with computers, what would you have been doing instead?”

“Well,” I paused.
“I always wanted to be a musician.”

“A Rock Star?” He beamed at me.

“Yeah! A Rock Star.” I answered as I laugh.

“Awesome!” He smiled.
“So, if you weren’t a Rock Star, what would you have been?”

I stopped and thought for a moment.
And I took another moment.
And another.

I actually have no answer.
I couldn’t think of anything else that I’d be doing.
I wanted to be a Musician.
A “Rock Star” if you please.

It’s all I ever wanted.
Not much of the glamour or the lifestyle.
Just the Music.
Me and Music.

I believe in the love for it.
The passion you feel when you hear it.
The inspirations that comes when you play it.
The beauty that makes you feel when you’re in tune with it.

As my son looks at me, waiting for an answer,
I said, “I think that’s it. I don’t want to be anything else.”

He continues on playing with his stuff.
I think he got his answer.

It may not make much sense to him right now,
but when the time comes,
I am sure that one advice I’ll be giving him
when he thinks of what he wants to be,
is to find his passion.
Find his dream.
Find his Love.

And not just follow it.
Not just to chase it.
But to Grab it by its face and own it.

By then, he may not have everything,
but at least he has his happiness.

Jamming with the kid

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

Sometimes my son just joins me when I play.
This was on Father’s Day, 2011.

He didn’t want to do the whole song but,
I was lucky enough to have him sit down this long.

Maybe someday I’m going to have to bribe him.

Summer Break

Friday, June 10th, 2011

A new T.N.T.
(Tyler’s New Things)

Kid: “Dad! Guess what? My Summer break starts today!”

Dad: “Really? That’s awesome! How are you going to spend your break?”

Kid: “I am going to spend it all in front of the TV.”

I was actually jealous.
He seemed determined to accomplish that.

Go son!
Go live Daddy’s dream!

Untainted

Enter scene:

Kid is trying to tell the story of a movie he saw.

Son: “..and then, they all chased the good guys with spears, and…”

Father: (Trying to be funny) “Wait! What kind of spear? Was it a Britney Spear?”

(Pause)

Son: “Uhh, no. Just a regular spear.”

Whew!
Carry on.
He’s still okay.

Another T.N.T.

Tyler’s New Thing-ies

Enter Scene:
After an argument while
Father and Son are playing video games:

Father: “Ok! I am sorry. Don’t be mad at me.”
Son: “I am not mad at you, Dad. You’re the best guy I know.”
Father: “Aww. Thank you, Son.”

Silence

Son: “But.. You’re the only guy I know.”

Funny Kid.
Good luck sleeping outside.
